Momentive RTV6136-D1 and RTV6100 Series Silicone Dielectric Gels
Momentive RTV6136-D1 and the broader RTV6100 series are two-part, low-viscosity silicone dielectric gels designed for electronic protection, stress relief, cushioning, and environmental sealing. These materials cure into extremely soft, gel-like elastomers that combine the self-healing behavior of a liquid with the dimensional stability of a non-flowing elastomer.
The RTV6100 family includes multiple formulations with different cure speeds, working lives, low-temperature performance, and production handling characteristics. RTV6136-D1 is the high-strength, tougher gel option in the series, offering improved tear resistance compared with conventional silicone gels while still maintaining the softness, clarity, dielectric performance, and stress-relief characteristics expected from silicone gel encapsulants.
These gels are well suited for delicate electronic assemblies, displays, sensors, aerospace electronics, high-reliability modules, and other applications where the material must protect components without placing excessive mechanical stress on solder joints, wire bonds, surface-mounted devices, or fragile substrates. Their low viscosity helps the material flow around components and into complex geometries, while the cured gel provides shock and vibration dampening, moisture protection, dielectric isolation, and thermal-stress relief across a wide operating temperature range.
The RTV6100 series gives designers a useful range of standard choices, including fast-curing, extended-working-life, high-strength, general-purpose, and extended low-temperature variants. In addition to selecting from the standard RTV6100 series options, these silicone systems can be further optimized for application-specific requirements. Depending on the design and process window, formulations and processing methods may be adjusted or enhanced for adhesion, working life, cure profile, final softness or durometer, penetration value, optical clarity, flow behavior, and other critical characteristics.

* RTV6186 requires a minimum cure temperature of 60°C.
RTV6136-D1 is especially useful when a soft dielectric gel is needed but the application also benefits from greater cured strength and tear resistance. It is commonly considered for applications where reworkability, probe testability, component protection, and long-term reliability are important, but where a conventional elastomer would be too rigid or place too much stress on the assembly.
For production use, the RTV6100 series is typically supplied as matched two-component kits designed for 1:1 mixing by weight. Some fast-cure versions, including RTV6126-D1, RTV6136-D1, and RTV6196, have relatively short pot life and are best processed with automated meter-mix-dispense equipment for repeatable results. Surface cleanliness, material compatibility, cure inhibition testing, and controlled mixing are important for consistent performance.
FPD.DEV can support selection, modification, validation, and production process development for RTV6136-D1 and related RTV6100 series silicone gels, including optical, electronic, aerospace, display, and high-reliability encapsulation applications.
